Mary’s litigation experience includes matters brought under a full range of employment laws such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, as well as their state equivalents, and cases brought under contract law, negligence law and other state and federal causes of action. In her employment practice, Mary exclusively represents employers and management in response to claims brought by employees. Mary regularly advises companies and human resource representatives on employment policies and best practices, including proper drafting of a full range of employee-related policies and procedures, potential discrimination, harassment, retaliation, reasonable accommodation and wage and hour claims. She also serves clients with business immigration needs. Mary advises small, medium and large-sized employers regarding immigration benefits available to meet their global workforce needs, managing I-9 compliance and audits as well as handling government audits relating to immigration matters. She also assists companies and foreign workers with obtaining temporary and/or permanent work status in the United States. In addition, she advises employers regarding immigration-related employment discrimination as regulated by the Department of Justice Office of Special Counsel and federal I-9 compliance. Fluent in Spanish, Mary is able to investigate cases and conduct employee training in Spanish where the workforce so requires. Mary is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Subcommittee on Federal Labor Standards Legislation and has been the Oklahoma state chapter editor for the ABA’s state wage and hour law publication since 2016. Mary practiced labor and employment law in San Diego from 2000 to 2012, including four years at Wilson Turner Kosmo LLP from 2008 to 2012. She has rejoined WTK after almost a decade practicing labor and employment law at Crowe & Dunlevy, in Oklahoma City, where she continued her representation of employers and built the firm’s business immigration practice. While practicing in Oklahoma, Mary was repeatedly selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers for management-side labor law. Mary is a frequent speaker at bar events and human resources meetings with topics including the broad range of laws affecting the workplace, procedural issues in litigation, and best employment practices. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, with honors, from Portland State University in 1996 and her Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1999.
